Mojang's Notch is a smart guy not just in game design terms but also when it comes to managing his company's 20 million or so Minecraft players. The designer has published an open poll on his personal blog to discover the opinions of his cuboid players. feel comfortable with the company collecting different types of anonymized data from its players.

Mojang currently tracks players only when they logins to the game. Minecraft servers is to keep track of "non-private information" like the length of a gameplay session, your PC's OS type and whether you're playing single or multiplayer mode and whether you're playing via the client or via the web applet. The information gathered would be shared with the community, "as usual."

Notch stated that the data will be transmitted "naturally" anonymously. "So it won't include any information about your session or your user name, and it doesn't send any sensitive information that you might not want to disclose." We are surprised that this type of data hasn't been collected in the first place, but we'll admit it. You can vote here for anonymity data collection or against an anonymity if you are part of the Minecraft nation.
