"Middle blocker Han Song-yi has decided to retire as a pro volleyball player. We will hold a retirement ceremony with fans at the opening game of the 2024-2025 season," Jeong Kwan-jang said on Wednesday.

Han Song-yi said, "It was like a dream. I was happy with the undue love I received from the presidential office over the past seven years," adding, "I was able to enjoy my career thanks to my beloved family and fans who always supported me. I will come back to the fans in a good condition."

Han Song-yi set foot in the V-League as soon as her professional volleyball team was launched in 2005. She played on the court wearing a Korea Expressway Corporation uniform. She made a name for herself as an outside heater representing women's volleyball. She played in international competitions including the Olympics, Asian Games, World Championship, Grand Prix, etc. She also won a silver medal at the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and a gold medal at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

In the V-League, he transferred to Heungkuk Life Insurance as a free agent after the 2007-2008 season. After the 2010-2011 season, he became a free agent once again and moved to GS Caltex.

The 2014-2015 season marked a turning point. Han Song-yi, former outside heater of the Korean national team, changed her position as a middle blocker. Back then, her team GS Caltex could not find a replacement after middle blocker Jung Dae-young (retired) moved to FA before the season. The center was cited as the biggest weakness. On the other hand, players with strong attack power including Lee So-young (currently IBK Industrial Bank) and Pyo Seung-joo (currently Jeonggwanjang) were positioned in the outside heater team. Han, who is 186 centimeters tall, chose to make a change for her team.

She started volleyball at age 11 and steadily played as an outside heater. Changing her position to a middle blocker after about 20 years was not an easy task. She was used to blocking but had difficulties in playing fastball and moving attack.

He was later traded to KGC Ginseng Corporation (currently Jeonggwanjang) in 2017. He returned to his original position as an outside heater. However, he failed to fully recover his performance and moved back to middle blocker. He sweated a lot between the two positions.

In the 2019-2020 season, he was reborn as a complete middle blocker. He showed great performance, shaking off his past regrets. Since then, he has been on the roster for the 2023-2024 season without missing a year in the V-League. He was the only female player who played all 20 seasons from his first professional career. This shows his steadiness and sincerity.

His award winning career is also spectacular. He made his debut as an adult in 2002 and won the Rookie of the Year award in the Super League. In the 2007-2008 season, he beat out prominent competitors including foreigners to become the top scorer. This is the only record among Korean players. He also received the Back Attack Award in the same year and the Monthly MVP in February. In 2012, he was named the KOVO Cup MVP. After switching to a middle blocker, he was named the Best 7 Middle blocker for two consecutive years in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons.

Han Song-yi played in 538 games, scoring 5321 points, attacking success rate 36.35%, blocking 845 (0.434 per set), receiving efficiency 37% and dig 4754 (2.440 per set).

In the cumulative record by item, he ranked fifth in points, fourth in offensive points (4269 points), sixth in blocking, eighth in receiving accuracy (2,753), seventh in Digg, eighth in defensive success (7507), and first in the number of games played.

The days of Han Song-yi end beautifully.
