Manchester United legend striker Wayne Rooney is on the verge of stepping down as manager after two months. It is a disgrace.

His replacement is on the rise less than three months after he was appointed manager of England's second division championship Birmingham City in October.

British media "The Sun" reported on the 29th that "Wayne Rooney is under crossfire due to his poor performance in the team." Rooney was appointed to Birmingham in October, but he has a report card of two wins, three draws and eight losses in 13 games during the two-month game.

The fact that Birmingham maintained good performance up until before his appointment as coach is all the more painful for Rooney. Coach John Uwayesu, who had been at the helm before Rooney, led Birmingham to rank sixth with five wins, three draws and three losses in 11 matches, allowing him to seek promotion to the next level. After dismissing Uwayesu, Rooney took the helm, and his team's performance plummeted to 19th. This season's promotion is almost over the top.

Moreover, his words and actions have been criticized for being inappropriate.

"The Sun" said, "Rooney's remarks after losing 1-3 in the game against Stoke City on the 27th are causing anger among fans." Rooney said in a press conference after the match, "I wanted to replace all 11 players who were selected in the first half at halftime," and severely blamed the player.

In the end, the patience of the Birmingham club's management appears to have run out. The Sun reported that the club is aiming for Steve Cooper, who was recently dismissed from Nottingham Forest as a replacement for Rooney.

This was the complete opposite of the situation when Rooney was appointed as a manager. The last Birmingham new owner, "Nighthead Capital," recruited Rooney as a manager because the owner himself is a big fan of Rooney and wants to place a former famous player in the managerial position for business profits.

However, as the team's performance did not follow suit, the team seems to have decided to dismiss Rooney. An unnamed club official who responded to an interview with The Sun said, "Rooney is running out of time. If the current performance continues, the club will replace Rooney and seek to improve his performance."

The atmosphere in the team is not good either. A source said, "Rooney's remarks after the Stoke City match suggest that there is a lack of harmony with the team," signaling that there is a problem with Rooney's control over the locker room. "Rooney was a controversial designation from the beginning," the source said. "Fans are also hoping that Rooney will leave."

Meanwhile, Birmingham wants Steve Cooper to be promoted to the first division.

"Cooper has attracted a lot of fans and is one of the most respected coaches for his performance in Nottingham," a club official said. "Currently, the management of the club believes that Nottingham and Birmingham are at the same level when Cooper was appointed to Nottingham in the past. Currently, the club is seeking promotion to the Premier League within two to three years, so we believe Cooper will be able to achieve this."

As soon as Cooper was appointed to Nottingham, which was in the relegation zone at the time of the Championship in 2021, he put the team up to the fourth place in the final of the season. Nottingham, which advanced to the promotion playoffs, overcame all the crises and achieved promotion to the Premier League. It is a successful return to the first division after 23 years of the club's history. In other words, there are many similarities between Nottingham at the time and Birmingham, which is currently experiencing ups and downs.  스포츠토토
