The Tampa Bay Rays extended the contract between Eric Nieder, president of operations, and Kevin Cash, ahead of the opening of spring training.

The Rays announced on Wednesday that they will extend managerial contract with Nieder. However, they did not disclose details such as annual salary. The annual salary of a baseball coach is not disclosed according to unwritten rules.

Neander GM, 40, from Virginia Tech, known for football, has been with Tampa Bay since 2007. After working in the operations department, he was promoted to president of baseball operations in 2021.

Tampa Bay, which has established itself as a low-investment team, has produced excellent frontmen, which is commonly known as the GM Academy. Tampa Bay, which is ranked at the bottom of the team's salary every year, advanced to the postseason for the fifth consecutive year in the American League East, which is known as the "elite district." Currently, the team is the longest. It has won the district championship twice among them.

This is the result of the combination of an excellent frontman and Kevin Cash, a coach with excellent leadership. Cash, a catcher with eight years of experience in the Major League, took the helm of Tampa Bay in 2015 as the youngest coach at age 37. This year is the 10th year. Cleveland Guardians coach Terry Francona has retired and is the longest serving coach in a team. The second is Seattle Mariners Scott Servais, who has served as the team since 2016.

Cash has recorded 739 wins and 617 losses and 0.545 wins overall for nine years. His win rate was below 50 percent for the third consecutive year since his debut, but he has posted the mark above 50 percent for the sixth consecutive year since 2018. He prefers platoon system based on Saber Metrics' record.

Tampa Bay is always top-notch in scouting prospects and fostering minor league farm teams. Currently, the highest salary in the team is starting pitcher Jack Eflin, who is $11 million.
