Growing Plant Outdoors

Growing weed outdoors is becoming easier and easier in Holland, despite the cold climate! The reason is that stronger weed varieties and auto flowers are being developed. These also bloom in the colder conditions of our little country and thus let nature do most of the work.

Advantages of growing weed outdoors

The biggest advantage of growing outdoors is that you don’t need to spend extra money on electricity. It is also just as legal as growing indoors, which means that you can grow up to five plants at a time. One such plant also produces much more weed outside than inside, because it has more room to grow big. A cannabis plant can grow to a height of three meters and yield hundreds of grams. All you need is a sunny spot where the plants can grow peacefully.

However, it is wise to let the seeds germinate indoors first. You can then be sure that the fragile plants are not immediately eaten by, for example, snails, or that they do not emerge due to the night cold. Then put the plants outside and protect them with some chicken wire against animals. Auto flowers are ready for harvesting after three months; non-auto flowers take about five months.

Getting Started With Outdoor Weed Growing

First, of course, you will have to find a place for the plants. You should look for a sunny and sheltered place where the plants can be safely kept, for example in your garden, at the water’s edge or in the woods. Of course, you can also choose to build a greenhouse for your plants. That way, you can be sure they will stay warm and you can hide them from view.

The quality of the soil also makes a difference to the results you end up with. You can use compost or manure to ensure that your plants have all the nutrients they need. But there are also ‘guerrilla growers’ who put their plants in the open air. Of course, it is important to find a well-hidden spot for this. Some growers even carve out space for their plants in, for example, bramble or nettle woods. Such a place can provide years of space for plants with a nice yield.

Autoflower: yes or no?

When you have found a good spot, you will also have to choose which kind of weed you want to use. There are simply two categories to choose from. Especially in a cold climate that can be an advantage, because the plants don’t have to grow into the autumn. There is no chance of mold because of all the wetness. Moreover, auto flowering plants are less tall and fit well behind a balcony edge, for example. The downside of this is that they also yield less.

A non-autoflower plant species has a cycle of about five months, but grows taller and therefore yields more. Popular varieties that fall into this category are, for example, Critical, Early Skunk, Durban Posion. You therefore have less chance of others recognising the plant as weed.

Whatever seeds you choose, make sure they are of good quality. It may cost you a little more, but at least you know you won’t be waiting six months for nothing! Besides, even the best seeds cost only a few euros each. If you compare that to the yield you can have in the autumn, it is actually very little.

Tips for Outdoor Cultivation

A few more tips to really get you started:

Make sure your plants get enough water, especially in the beginning. The roots are not yet so stretched out that they cannot extract as much water from the soil.

If you are growing in the wild, it may be wise to prune away some of the surrounding greenery. This way you can be sure that the plants get enough light.

Are you growing in nature? Then be careful not to ‘squash’ a path to the plants when visiting them, as this can lead to discovery!

In short, if you have the right soil and seeds, it is very easy to grow weed outdoors! A few plants can give you enough yield to last you the whole year – high quality weed that many outdoor growers say tastes better than indoor weed. Nothing to stop you, in other words!
