Welcome to Unfinished Learning? Inspire a Growth Mindset to Boost Student Engagement in Inclusive Math Classrooms with High Leverage Practices.

In this session, we will Accelerate Learning with High Leverage Practices and Growth Mindset.

This asynchronous professional learning includes 6 self-paced interactive learning units that you can complete at your own convenience any time from July 11 to October 11, 2021. Learning Units include videos, discussion boards, self-assessments, and written text.

The Professional Learning Activities Checklist will help you self-monitor your activities completion and can be used as a guide. Welcome Video

Assignment in Module 0: Please add your email to your profile. It only takes a few seconds. That way, you will receive announcements and I will have a way to troubleshoot any technical problems.

By the end of professional learning, you will have resources that you can use in your classrooms to accelerate learning. Resources that integrate high leverage practices and growth mindset will be shared, helping you save planning time. You will learn how to:

Align curriculum for growth mindset and create materials for a math unit you plan to teach.
Identify "power standards", essential grade-level and prerequisite content standards with VDOE resources
Create student self-monitoring checklists
Integrate high leverage practices and growth mindset into classroom practices.
Communicate growth mindset with parents and caregivers.

Professional Development Hours: In the spirit of growth mindset, tiered professional development hours align with completed activities.

Upon completion of all activities, you will receive a certificate for 10 Professional Development Hours. The certificate will be emailed to you after you complete all professional learning activities.
If you have not completed all activities by October 11, 2021 yet, then you will receive Professional Development Hours for participating in and completing Learning Unit Activities up to Learning Unit 4, which includes Signature Activity #1, Self-Monitoring Checklist. The chart below illustrates hours earned per learning unit.
If you would like to re-enroll, participate and complete remaining learning unit activities after October 11, you will earn additional professional development hours for completion of all remaining activities.
A certificate verifying Professional Development Hours will be emailed to you.

Note: On October 11, 2021, this first professional learning module (July 11 - October 11) will close until it reopens on October 18 for a second session.

Signature Activity: There are two signature activities. These activities are directly related to your teaching and are materials you can use in your classes. The first activity is a self-monitoring checklist you created for a math unit you plan to teach. The second activity is a resource you plan to communicate with parents. This can be a back to school night presentation slide, or resource that is helpful to you.

There is a repository where you can share and search other teachers' materials and resources. This is a work in progress. Hopefully, this will be a helpful resource once we have additional materials.

Instructional Coaches/ Teacher Leaders/Administrators: An OPTIONAL learning unit is designed to help teacher leaders, instructional coaches, and administrators provide supportive feedback to teachers as they implement high leverage practices and growth mindset strategies. Pre-created rubrics and checklists are resources to facilitate discussions around observed practices or assist teachers in self-reflection. If teachers want to examine the effect of their teaching practices and strategies on students, the seventh session has an assessment that teachers can give students throughout the school year - before, during and after they teach with HLPs and growth mindset.
