How long you need to start your application before you intend to start at uni depends on the course you're applying for.

For most people applying to start university in 2023, you should at least make a start on your application process in 2022.

Generally, applicants to courses such as Medicine, Dentistry, and Veterinary Medicine have to submit their applications earlier than other courses.
The same is the case for applicants to the University of Oxford, and to the University of Cambridge.
Generally this deadline is in October.
So for example a candidate wishing to start medicine in September 2023 would need to submit their UCAS application in October 2022.

For MOST other courses, the deadline to submit your application is in January.
So an applicant to radiology wishing to start in September 2023 would need to submit their UCAS application in January 2023.
