It's Julia! This week, I'm introducing… Motivated Julia!!!

This picture dates back to April 3rd, 2020 when Julia was peak motivated. It has all gone downhill from there.

Here are some different tips on how to regain that motivation back (especially now!!):

Reevaluate what really matters in your life. Rework your schedule so you can work on what matters.
Take breaks but make sure they aren't too long. Create a schedule where you can include breaks but bounce back to work easily
I heard that listening to mario kart music can help you write essays overnight but don't quote me

No More Office Hours!! Introducing… Hangout Time!

Julia isn't getting rid of office hours!! BUT it's now called Hangout Time! Julia will also be working on her graduate school applications at this time and you can join in with your fellow buddies and work on your college apps :) They are at our usual Tuesdays and Thursday from 3-4PM (except this week, we will be replacing Thursday hangout time with our group session time)

Oregon Goes to College has posted self-guided videos that walk students through the application process at most Oregon colleges!
The University of Oregon’s Summer Academy to Inspire Learning (SAIL) program is offering weekly virtual drop in sessions and workshops to support high school students on their college application journey. The sessions are open to ALL high school students, even if you aren't planning to apply to UO.
- Wednesdays from 2-3PM - College and Career Readiness Mini Workshops
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 11 AM-1:30 PM - Drop In Sessions for students to complete financial aid applications, scholarship applications or just ask a question about college

Scholarships

OSAC opened up Nov 1 and they have a BUNCH of scholarships! Here is a list of all of them (I would recommend making an OSAC account that will filter out scholarships you can apply to so you don't need look through all 110 pages)

The Ford Family Foundation Scholarship

Deadline: Open November 1 (deadline March 1)

Amount: Award amount is calculated on college cost of attendance (tuition, fees, room and board, personal costs, etc.), minus other grants and scholarships

Levels: Graduating high school seniors, and community college students seeking a bachelor’s degree

Available for undocumented/DACA students? Does not state restrictions

Basic Information: Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (or alternative if undocumented) as soon as possible after October 1. Then, complete the online application.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

Deadline: November 10, 2020

Amount: $1,000 - $5,000

Levels: Grades 5 - 12

Available for undocumented/DACA students? No

Basic Information: The program honors middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state, and national level.

The Hagan Scholarship

Deadline: November 15, 2020

Amount: Up to $48,000 over four years

Basic Information: The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship designed to help high-achieving students from small towns and rural areas graduate college debt-free. Recipients must:

Graduate from a public high school located in a county having fewer than 50,000 resident, or
Graduate from a remote rural school located in a county having more than 50,000 residents

Elk National Foundation Most Valuable Student

Dr. Juan Andrade Jr. Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaderships

Basic Information: Applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as full-time undergraduate students, in an accredited four-year or two-year institution in the U.S. or U.S. territories, and demonstrate a verifiable need for financial support. At least one parent must be of Hispanic ancestry. Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply (DACA or Undocumented). Three short essays are required for application.

Unigo – Why Does Education Matter to You Scholarship

Act Six Scholarship

Amount: Full-tuition, full-need scholarship for Corban University or George Fox University prospective students

Levels: High School Senior or Community College students, or recent High School graduate

Basic Information: Awards 14 students full scholarships to Corban University or George Fox University. You must live in the Portland/Salem area and have a desire to use your college education to make a difference as a leader on campus and at home. There are two essays (main essay and financial summary) and requires 1 community recommendation and 1 optional teacher recommendation.

American Indian Nurse Scholarship Program

Deadline: December 1, 2020

Amount: $1,500

Levels: Does not state

Available for undocumented/DACA students? No

Basic Information: The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America has provided scholarship awards since 1928 to assist students of American Indian, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian heritage pursuing degrees in nursing or in the field of health care. Eligible students receive $1,500 per semester and the money is to be used strictly for tuition, books or fees applicable to the student’s approved program.

Dell Scholars

Deadline: December 1, 2020

Amount: $20,000

Basic Information: Dell Scholars was designed to provide a support system for the challenges many students face while pursuing a degree. Even so, we recognize that college costs can be a significant burden for many students and their families. The Science Ambassador Scholarship

Amount: Full Tuition

Basic Information: A full–tuition scholarship for a woman in science, technology, engineering, or math. Film a three–minute educational video of yourself explaining a STEM topic you’re passionate about. You must be a high school senior or an undergraduate college student to apply.
