Youth work is about supporting young people's growth, independence and inclusion in society. Youth work in Finland is not restricted to offering only targeted forms, but it offers services to everyone in support of their wellbeing. Each municipality offers youth work, which includes:

  • Youth centers
    • a place where young people can spend time and do activities
    • both guided and self-organised activities by the young people
  • Outreach youth work
    • reaching young people in need of support and helping them to access services and other support that promote their growth, independence, social inclusion and other life management skills, as well as their access to education, training and the labour market
  • Workshops (not mandatory in municipalities)
    • coaching to improve young people's capacities to apply for education or the labour market
    • strengthening everyday management skills
  • Digital youth work
  • International youth work
  • In addition to municipalities, youth work is also carried out in:
    • Parishes/ Churches
      • camps, trips, events and volunteering
    • Schools
    • Organisations
      • enhancing opportunities for empowerment and hobbies
    • One-Stop Guidance Centers (Ohjaamo)
      • free assistance for example job, education, well-being or day-to-day matters
