The role of youth worker

As we’ve seen in the previous module the Council of Europe's Recommendation on Youth Work Links to an external site., claims that youth workers foster participation through various activities.

Young people should get opportunities where they can learn about participation thus having their own experience related to participation it will become easier for them to engage with other possibilities in the future. Percy-Smith (2015) states that certain initiatives may offer all young people the possibility to participate (eg.: school programmes or local projects) although these forms may be less formal and structured ways of participation.

The activities organized by youth workers most of the time encapsulate non-formal and informal learning which creates a safe learning environment for young people to experience what participation means.
