EU Youth Strategy

“Space and Participation for All” EU Youth Strategy and European Youth Goals about youth participation

The EU Youth Strategy is the structure for EU youth policy cooperation for 2019-2027. The EU Youth Strategy aims to encourage young people to participate in the democratic life and in society, by the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes and structured dialogue. The focus is on three core areas of action: Engage, Connect, Empower, and sets youth participation right at the front line of youth policy.

The EU Youth Strategy can be understood as a backbone (a reference point) to many practical developments in the youth field, for instance the Erasmus+ Youth is strongly linked to the Strategy and offers various funding opportunities to contribute the implementation of the Strategy from local to European level.

In a European-wide dialogue process, young people gathered from all over Europe and developed 11 European Youth Goals Links to an external site.. These goals show areas that still need changes to happen so that young people in Europe can have the necessary resources to take part in society and use their full potential. The 9th goal is called “Space and participation for all”, which is specifically about strengthening youth participation by including young people in decision-making no matter the background and providing the information and spaces to do so. The EU Youth Strategy should contribute to realising this vision of young people by deploying EU level policy instruments as well as actions at national, regional and local level by all stakeholders.
