Medications:

There are a few things to know about medications.

Each campus has standing orders from our MD and is allowed to administer 4 medications to students with parental permission.  Those medications are Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Benadryl and Neosporin.  We are required to get permission from a parent for EACH dose that is administered.   Please DO NOT use your own stash.  If you have a student that needs one of those medications, please call the front office. If the nurse is available, we may be able to bring a dose of medication to that student in your room after we get permission. This will  help cut down on the amount of students in the hallways.

Students are allowed to carry a one day supply of these medications. It does need to be in the original container. This is to help stop the sharing of medications.   If a student pulls out a bottle and it is full, you need to confiscate it and bring it to the nurse.

If medications need to be administered at school (over the counter medication, a prescription medication, insulin, seizure rescue medications, Epipens, inhalers, etc), there is a form that is required to be filled out by the student's prescribing doctor.  The medication may be kept in the nurse's office. If it is appropriate, students may self administer that medication, which means they would be carrying it on their person.   In this case, the same rule applies; one day supply in the original container and please confiscate it if there is more than 1 dose. They are NOT to be sharing ANY medications. If you find that this is happening please let the nurse, the principal or the resource officer know immediately.
