Masks.......everyone's favorite subject right now.......besides COVID. ;)
Regardless of your personal beliefs, ALL students, faculty/staff and visitors are required to wear a mask while on campus. This mandate has come to us from the Governor of the State of Utah. Masks/face coverings are being used to help stop the spread of COVID-19 to others.
There may be a time or two where a mask or face covering do not have to be worn. These are few are far between. A couple of examples can include if you are outside eating lunch AND able to maintain 6 feet from others, recess at the elementary, if a student or an employee has a mask exemption, a student receiving speech evaluation/therapy (during their session), or children younger than 3 years of age.
Just like a vaccine exemption, there is a process and forms to be filled out prior to a student or employee being exempt from wearing a mask/face covering. The form is located in the front office . That should be filled out and then there is required paperwork (medical documentation) that needs to be attached to the form before it will be reviewed by admin for approval. The medical documentation is required to be from a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Physician Assistant (PA), or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). If a student is on a 504 or IEP they MAY NOT be required to have additional medical documentation. If the medical exemption relates to the disability identified in the existing 504 or IEP plan, they would not be required to have additional medical documentation.
If you are teacher of a student that has a mask exemption, you will be notified. And with that student please try to increase physical distance between that student and other students and ensure that cleaning and sanitizing of supplies/desk and hands is happening often.
The CDC does not recommend use of face shields instead of a face mask, or for normal everyday activities. If you want to wear a face shield, you also need to wear a face mask. Only wear a face shield instead of a face mask if you are allowed, and in that case the please ensure it wraps around your face and goes below your chin.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.
