The video reported glucose levels in mmol/L. We actually check glucose in mg/dl. So in the video it said hypoglycemia is when glucose drops below 4 mmol/L, that is equal to about 72 mg/dl. And actually hypoglycemia can occur when their level is even a little higher, if they are experiencing other signs.

Once it's found that their glucose is low, treat it with a fast acting glucose (that is about 15 grams of carbohydrates) and then recheck their glucose in 15 minutes. If it is still low, give another another 15 grams and recheck in 15 minutes. This is the 15:15 rule. It makes it simple to remember.

If their glucose goes extremely low, they can lose consciousness or even have a seizure. If you find a diabetic that is unconscious, do NOT give them carbohydrates to eat. DO NOT put anything in their mouth. Glucagon is used in this type of situation. It is a hormone that helps to quickly raise glucose levels in emergency situations. Please follow this Link to learn more about what it looks like and how to administer. Our diabetics all have glucagon that look exactly like it does in the link. It may be kept with them in their supplies they carry around or in the nurse's office.
