Introduction
Welcome PH Staff and Faculty,
In these first few modules we want to introduce ourselves and go over a couple of things before we get to the nitty gritty of Health and Safety. At first there may be a lot of reading. But don't you worry, some of them will have videos and all sorts of fun things.
Bree Ponce is the school nurse for the Junior High and High School. Staci Brown is the school nurse over the Elementary School. In the past, we have pretty much covered our own campuses. As the student population changes and with CoVid-19 present, this year is going to look a little different. We will both be available and in and out of all 3 campuses. We are here Monday-Friday from about 7:30-3:30. You can reach Bree at her main office in the Junior High at extension 3002. If no answer, please leave a message and I will get back with you. If it's urgent, please call the secretaries (at either campus) and they can reach me immediately. Staci can be reached by calling the secretaries at the Elementary. For any non-urgent requests, feel free to email us.
We are pretty lucky to have 2 school nurses here at Providence Hall. Schools in most districts usually have 1 RN cover 5-8 schools. Teachers may never see them on their campus, and some of their major duties are delegated to other staff members. We may ask for your help a little more in the classroom to cut down on exposures this year, but we want you to know and understand that we are available and accessible.
We want you to be aware of a couple of things that will be different this year. At the elementary campus, every student will have their temperature checked prior to coming in the building. We will NOT be doing this at the Junior High or High School. As for the nurse/sick room, we will now have 2 designated areas at each campus. The actual nurse's office will be the "well room." It will be an area for the normal nursing checks that happen during the day......diabetic care, sudden vision changes, hurt extremities, broken bones, severe bleeding, seizures, altered level of consciousness/concussions, allergic reaction, etc. We will have an isolation room as well, which will accommodate sick students. This will be the "sick room." This room will be for students who are exhibiting any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 and they will remain in this room until a parent can come and pick them up. At the Junior High this will be classroom 154. At the High School it will be the old board room across the hall from the office. The Elementary's isolation/sick room will be on the stage.
We greatly appreciate all the teachers and staff here at PH and all they do for our students. We hate placing more responsibility on each of you, but in order to minimize the foot traffic of students in the hallway, it is necessary. We ask that you handle what health concerns you are able to in the classroom. Bloody noses, bandaid application, students who may be stressed out and need a small break etc.... We will ensure you have a supply of bandaids in each classroom for your use. If your student needs to see the nurse for any reason OTHER than covid symptoms, call the office to let them know. If your student has covid symptoms, send them directly to the sick room and alert nurse/front office.
